The Opinion Scale block lets you collect participants' ratings or feelings on a topic using a visual scale. It's perfect for measuring satisfaction, agreement, preferences, or any subjective assessment on a continuum.
Setting up your opinion scale
Scale Labels
Labels help participants understand what each end (and optionally the middle) of your scale represents:
Left label: Defines the meaning of the lowest rating
Middle label: Clarifies the midpoint value
Right label: Defines the meaning of the highest rating
Clear labels are crucial for collecting accurate data, as they help participants understand exactly what each point on the scale represents.
Numerical Scale
Displays a scale with numbers
Great for precise ratings and quantitative analysis
You can choose whether to start the scale at 0 or 1
Ideal for measuring specific metrics like satisfaction scores
Star Rating
Shows a familiar star rating system
Highly intuitive for participants rating products or experiences
Best for consumer-oriented feedback scenarios
Emotion Scale
Displays a series of emotion faces ranging from negative to positive
Excellent for capturing emotional responses or satisfaction
More visual and less number-focused
Scale Range
Use the slider to set how many points your scale should have. A 5 point scale is often sufficient for most research questions. Larger scales (6-10 points) provide more granularity but may be harder for participants to distinguish between adjacent values.
Writing opinion scale questions
When crafting your question, aim for clarity and neutrality. Your question should be specific about what you want participants to rate. For example, "How satisfied are you with the checkout process?" works well, while "Isn't our new checkout process much better?" might bias your results.
Adding Context
The "Additional info" field gives you space to provide helpful context. Use this area to clarify exactly what aspect of the experience you want participants to rate or to provide any necessary background information that helps frame the question properly.
