Difference between Organiser & Facilitator

Key differences between the two roles and know when to choose one over the other

The organiser is the person who sets the study up. The facilitator is the person who runs the sessions and talks to participants. They're often the same person, but they don't have to be.

The organiser

The organiser (also called the owner) is whoever created the study. They may design the setup, manage the budget, or coordinate the project without ever running a session.

Because they may not be hands-on during sessions, organisers receive fewer automated notifications about the study, so their inbox isn't filled with attendance confirmations for sessions they aren't running.

The facilitator

The facilitator is the person speaking with participants on the day. The facilitator's first name is what participants see as their primary contact for the study, not the organiser's.

Why the distinction matters

It tells the Askable team who to contact about what. Questions about the study setup go to the organiser; anything session-related, like a participant cancellation, goes straight to the facilitator so it reaches the person who needs to act on it.

Can I have multiple facilitators on the same study?

You can only set one facilitator in the study setup, but anyone on your team can open the study and run any session. Coordinate within your team so two people don't take the same slot. For colour-coding sessions by team member, see Assigning facilitators to sessions.
