You can take time-stamped notes during any Askable Sessions call, then review, edit and download them alongside the recording in playback.
Open the notes panel
When you are in a session, click the sticky note icon at the bottom right of your screen, or press Ctrl + N.
Write a note
Just start typing; the text field captures your note straight away.
Press Enter to save a note.
Press Shift + Enter for a new line within the same note.
Notes are listed in the order they were taken, newest at the bottom.
Both facilitators and observers can take notes.
Notes are only time-stamped if the call is being recorded, so start your recording if you want timestamps.
Tip: to flag a key moment without writing anything, press Ctrl + . to drop a quick marker (it shows as an eyes emoji).
Keyboard shortcuts
Press / at any time during a call to see all keyboard shortcuts for switching between notes, messages and call information.
Edit or delete notes
During the call, hover over a note and click the trash icon to delete it. Deleted one by mistake? Click Undo and it comes right back. You can edit notes afterwards in playback.
View and download your notes
After the session, open your study's participant list and click View session next to the participant.
This opens playback, where you can replay the session with your notes alongside.
Download your notes as a CSV or the session video as an MP4.
I forgot to record but took notes
No problem. Your notes are still saved and viewable; they just won't have timestamps, because timestamps come from the recording.
What else can I do with notes?
Use them as markers when creating highlight reels.
Export them to Miro or Figma as stickies for affinity mapping.
Work with them in a spreadsheet via the CSV export.
