1. Create your account
To create your Askable account you can sign up and answer some initial questions in less than 60 seconds. We don't need to know every detail. However, to get started we just need a few key details and you'll start receiving opportunities.
2. Boost your profile
Your profile is your superpower when it comes to being selected for research opportunities. Take a few minutes to update your profile, and highlight your experiences, interests, and background so you can match the criteria for specific studies. Learn more about boosting your profile.
3. Browse for opportunities
Ready to dive in? Start exploring and applying to opportunities that match your interests and experiences. It’s like raising your hand and saying, “I’m interested!” Just head to the "Explore" tab in your menu and see what’s available. To apply for opportunities, you just have to answer some questions specific to that study to work out if you're the person the researcher is looking for!
4. Wait for your application to be reviewed
After you’ve applied to an opportunity, the researcher will review your application. Every research study has its own criteria, and researchers are looking for a mix of voices that represent different demographics. If you meet the criteria, you’ll be selected and notified when you’re invited to a session. Then, all you have to do is confirm or reject the invitation.
If it is for an online task, survey, or AI interview, you can just start it immediately!
5. Confirm your session
Once you’ve confirmed your session, we’ll send you all the details you need. This includes the date, time, and any special instructions.
6. Setting up
On the day of your session, find a quiet, comfortable spot where you won’t be disturbed. If your session is online, make sure your device is charged, your internet connection is strong, and your microphone and camera (if needed) are working well.
7. Different study types
With Askable, you might be part of various research studies. Here’s what you can expect:
💻 Surveys and tasks
Take your time: Only sign up for studies when you have enough time to complete them thoroughly.
Answer everything: Treat every question as important. The more detail you provide, the more valuable your feedback.
Talk it out: Some tasks may ask you to vocalise your thoughts as you go. Speak clearly and don’t be shy about sharing what’s on your mind.
Mark as complete: For any task that takes place outside of Askable, remember to return your Askable account to mark yourself as ‘Complete’ so you can receive your incentive at the end.
These sessions are often online, so you can participate from the comfort of your home or even during your lunch break. Whether you’re testing a website or providing feedback on a new product, you’re contributing valuable insights.
💬 Interviews and video calls
During video calls the sessions are interactive and often involve chatting with a facilitator or other participants. You’ll be asked for your opinions, experiences, and ideas.
Have fun: These sessions are designed to be enjoyable. Expect a friendly environment, sometimes even with refreshments if you’re attending in person.
During a video call you might be asked to use a website, app, or product while sharing your thoughts out loud. It’s all about understanding how real people like you interact with what’s being tested.
Your feedback matters: The insights you provide here help make products better and more user-friendly. So don’t hold back!
8. Joining the session
To join, log into your Askable account a few minutes before the session starts. For video calls held on Askable Sessions, you’ll receive a link to join via your email + be able to access it via the opportunity itself in Askable. If the video call is held on a Third Party Tool, you will be sent a meeting link from the facilitator either via Askable Messages or email.
If it’s an in-person session, aim to arrive 10 minutes early to register and get settled.
9. During the session
During a session or interview, whether you’re answering questions, testing a product, or sharing your thoughts, just be yourself. There’s no right or wrong way to participate, just be honest open, and try to go in to detail.
10. Wrapping up
When the session is over, the researcher might ask if you have any final thoughts or questions. Feel free to share anything that comes to mind.
After that, you’re done! You’ll receive a text message to mark your attendance in order to claim your incentive through your Askable account. Occasionally the researcher may mark you complete on your behalf. This is often the case if you don't receive a message.
If the opportunity says 'Session complete', it means you don't have to do any more!
