Troubleshooting screen sharing

Learn how to enable permissions, start screen sharing, and troubleshoot common issues when sharing your screen on Askable for iOS and Android.

Sharing your screen from the Askable mobile app needs a couple of device permissions. This article covers enabling them, starting a screen share, and fixing the common issues on iOS and Android.

iOS

Enable permissions. Make sure Camera and Microphone permissions are enabled. In the app, go to Profile then Permissions, or use your device settings.

Share your screen:

  1. In the call, tap the screen share icon at the bottom of the page.

  2. In the Screen Broadcast dialog, select Askable to start sharing.

Researcher can't see your screen?

  1. Make sure you selected Askable in the Screen Broadcast dialog.

  2. Check your internet connection.

  3. If you leave the Askable app while sharing, do not dismiss the Picture in Picture window. You can dock it to the side of your screen if it is in the way.

  4. Check you are on the latest iOS version and latest Askable app version.

Android

Enable permissions. Make sure Camera, Microphone and Notifications permissions are enabled. In the app, go to Profile then Permissions, or use your device settings.

Share your screen:

  1. In the call, tap the screen share icon at the bottom of the page.

  2. A system dialog appears:

    • If asked to pick between Share one app and Share entire screen, pick Share entire screen if you are unsure which app you need or need to share more than one.

    • Otherwise, tap Start now.

Microphone not working while sharing? Check the Notifications permission is enabled and that an "Askable is running" notification appears after joining the call.

Researcher can't see your screen after you leave the Askable app?

  1. Double check you selected Share entire screen in the screen share dialog.

  2. Make sure the Notifications permission is enabled.

  3. Do not dismiss the Picture in Picture window after leaving the app; dock it to the side if it is in the way.

Screen share freezes after a few minutes? Same two fixes: enable Notifications permission, and keep the Picture in Picture window open.

Screen share won't turn on at all

If the screen share button does nothing or shows an error:

  1. Check you are not on a company-managed device. Company device policies often block screen sharing.

  2. Check Picture in Picture is enabled for Askable in your device's system settings.
