The Task/Survey won't load

Troubleshooting Steps for Unresponsive Tasks on Askable

Congrats on being invited to a survey or online task! πŸ₯³ If you're having trouble getting in or it's not loading, don't stress β€” it's usually a quick fix. Work through these in order.

Internet & connection

  • Check your connection β€” a patchy signal can stop the task loading. Make sure it's strong and stable.

  • Refresh the page β€” often all it takes to get things moving again.

Browser & device

  • Use Chrome β€” if you're on any other browser, switch now. We support others but everything runs best on Chrome.

  • Clear your cache and cookies β€” old data can cause glitches.

  • Keep your browser updated.

  • Turn off ad-blockers (just for now) β€” they can block tasks from loading.

  • Try a different device β€” some tasks work best on a computer rather than a phone or tablet.

Account & settings

  • Log out and back in β€” resets your session and fixes a lot of small glitches.

  • Check mic & camera permissions β€” if the task needs audio or video, your browser must be allowed to use them. See Camera & microphone not working.

  • Close other apps β€” Zoom, Teams, etc. can hog your camera, mic, or bandwidth.

  • Update your device β€” prevents compatibility hiccups.

Quick fix

  • Restart your computer β€” clears temporary issues for a fresh start.

"I keep getting an unknown error when I try to start"

This is usually fixed by the steps above β€” Chrome, refresh, turn off VPN/ad-blockers, allow camera/mic, try another device. If it persists, let the researcher and our team know (below) with the study name.

Will I still get paid if it failed?

If a task genuinely won't work or errors out, you won't miss out β€” let us know and we'll make sure your participation is sorted. These issues are sometimes a platform bug on our end, not anything you did.
