Overview
Every study is built with a specific way of taking part in mind; some are designed for desktop interfaces and some for mobile phones. Studies with a device requirement are tagged with a Desktop only or Mobile only badge on the opportunity listing, so you can check before you start. If you open a study on a device that doesn't match what it needs, you'll also see a quick message explaining what's required and how to switch.
What kind of requirement might I see?
Desktop only studies, like ones testing a website, software, or a detailed visual task, can only be completed on a desktop or laptop computer. If you open the link on your phone, we'll ask you to continue on a desktop device instead.
Mobile only studies are built specifically for mobile, like testing an app or reviewing something on the go. If you open the link on a desktop, we'll ask you to continue on your phone.
Askable mobile app may be required for studies that record video or audio, like AI moderated interviews or unmoderated tasks that can only be completed inside the Askable app. If you don't have it yet, you'll see a QR code to download it. Scan it with your phone's camera, or search "Askable" in the App Store or Google Play.
A working camera and microphone If a study needs to record you, you'll need a device with a working camera and mic, whichever device you end up on. If yours isn't cooperating, see Camera & microphone not working / failing the device check.
What do I do if I see one of these messages?
Scan the QR code with your phone's camera, it's the fastest way to open the study (or download the app first) on the right device.
Copy the link and send it to yourself to open on the right device
.
Once you're on the right device. and have the app installed, if that's what's needed, open the study link again to continue.
