When you click Create on the Studies page, you choose from six study types. Here's what each one is for.
Interview
Schedule and conduct remote interviews. The classic moderated method: you talk to participants one on one over video, Askable handles recruitment, scheduling and incentives. Use it for discovery interviews, moderated usability tests and anything where depth beats volume.
Focus groups: multiple participants in one session are typically arranged through an interview-style setup. Contact us on live chat for group capacity and a custom duration, ideally while your study is in review.
In person sessions: if you're meeting participants face to face, contact us on live chat if you don't see an in person option in your setup, and see tips for running in person studies.
AI moderated
An AI moderator runs the interview for you, asking your questions and probing answers. Use it when you want interview-style depth at a scale and speed closer to unmoderated research.
Unmoderated
Participants complete self-guided tasks in their own time, with recording. The builder supports conditional logic and variant comparison for A/B style testing. Use it for prototype tests, click tests and recorded task walkthroughs. Note the build locks once the study is live.
Survey
Quick structured feedback at volume. Use it for concept feelers, preference checks and questionnaires.
Participant recruitment
Recruitment only, for research that runs in a third-party tool. Askable finds, screens, schedules and pays participants; your tool does the rest. See how to use a third party tool.
Project delivery
Askable runs the research for you end to end: recruitment, moderation, analysis and reporting. See Askable Recruit vs Askable Plus.
Something that doesn't fit a box?
Diary studies, longitudinal research, combined moderated and unmoderated designs with the same participants, or very niche audiences are all possible. Message us on live chat and we'll advise the best setup before you build.
