Participant etiquette guide

Being a great participant isn't rocket science — a few simple steps make a big difference, for the researcher and for you. It's a win-win! 🙌

⏰ Be on time

Show up 5–10 minutes early, online or in person, so you can settle in and give your best.

🔇 Find your quiet zone

Pick a quiet, comfortable spot where you won't be interrupted. Turn off the TV, silence your phone, and let others know you need focus time. If you have little ones at home, try to arrange for them to be looked after so you can participate without distractions — we know it's not always easy, and it helps everyone get the most out of the session.

🗣️ There are no right or wrong answers

Just share your honest opinions — don't worry about "right" answers. Your real thoughts help researchers build better products, services, and experiences. See Askable's Honesty Policy.

💡 Stay engaged

Listen carefully, ask questions if unsure, and give thoughtful, descriptive feedback. The more detail you share, the more valuable your input.

👕 Dress (comfy) smart-casual

For in-person and online sessions, go smart-casual — presentable, polished, and, above all, comfortable.

👋 Need to cancel? No problem

Life happens — but please be considerate, as cancelling affects the research. Try to reschedule by messaging the researcher from the opportunity page. If you must cancel, do it as early as you can and with at least 24 hours' notice, so the researcher can find a replacement. See How do I cancel/reschedule my session?.

☕ Relax and enjoy

There's no script — researchers want the real you. Relax, be yourself, and enjoy sharing your voice and making an impact!
