Cancelling or rescheduling your session
Life happens — here's how to handle it, and why giving notice matters.
Try to reschedule first
Before cancelling, message the researcher to reschedule if you can. Send them a message via Messages on the opportunity page with your availability. Rescheduling keeps your spot and avoids disrupting the research.
How to cancel
If you do need to cancel: My opportunities → Upcoming → click into the session → Cancel my attendance.
A pop-up appears — please give a thorough explanation so the team understands why, then confirm.
✅ You won't face any penalties as long as you cancel with at least 24 hours' notice. Last-minute cancellations and no-shows can affect the research and your standing, so cancel as early as you can. See Participant Etiquette Guide.
Overlapping sessions
If two sessions clash:
Contact the researcher for one session as soon as you notice, with your availability, to request a time change.
Cancel if unresolved — if it's still clashing and within 24 hours, cancel one and note your available times in the explanation, to avoid penalties.
Confirming a rescheduled session ⚠️
This is important: when a session is rescheduled, it comes through as a new invitation and stays in "invited" status until you actively confirm it.
If you don't confirm, the session won't go ahead — even if you try to join at the scheduled time. Always check for the new invite and confirm it.
If the researcher asks to reschedule
You'll get a new invite to confirm — see How can I locate my meeting link and contact the researcher.
Thank you for your co-operation! 😃
